Simone Denarium, first lady of Roraima, was elected this Monday (22) counselor of the state’s Court of Auditors.

Now, she will supervise the accounts of the local government, commanded by her husband, Antonio Denarium (PP).

Simone received 17 of the 24 votes in the Legislative Assembly. Voting was secret, using paper ballots.

She was running against Jorge Everton Barreto Guimarães, who received four votes; Regys Odlare de Lima Freitas, who had three votes, and Maria da Glória de Souza Lima. Candidates had already gone through sabbaticals before voting.

The salary for the lifetime position is R$ 35,000, with the possibility of a functional property.

Requests to annul her candidacy were filed with state and federal prosecutors, in addition to the Assembly itself. None were accepted.

The MP-RR (Public Ministry of Roraima) opposed the election because Simone had already acted irregularly as a civil servant. According to a report in the newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo, Simone was a managing partner of two companies at the same time as she was state secretary, which is prohibited.

“We need to have female representation in a place of decision. I am sure that, with my ability and the curriculum that I presented, all of this was taken into consideration by everyone”, said Simone after the election.

She promised to contribute to social policies, especially those focused on people with disabilities.

The episode adds to other recent cases of indication of family members linked to politicians in the states.

On the 16th, the Legislative Assembly of Pernambuco approved the lawyer Eduardo Porto as a new member of the TCE (State Court of Auditors). He will replace his own father, retired counselor Carlos Porto.

The candidacy was articulated by the President of the Assembly, Álvaro Porto (PSDB), who is the uncle of the future councilor and brother of Carlos Porto.

In Bahia, the wife of the Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa (PT), nurse Aline Peixoto, was approved in March for the Court of Auditors of Municipalities in the state.

Also in March, in Pará, lawyer Daniela Barbalho, wife of Governor Helder Barbalho (MDB), was approved for the TCE. In Alagoas, administrator Renata Calheiros, wife of former governor and Minister of Transport Renan Filho, was also appointed to the Court of Auditors in December.

Lula government ministers (PT) Wellington Dias (Social Development) and Waldez Góes (National Integration), both former governors, also registered their wives in the audit courts of Piauí and Amapá, respectively.
