WhatsApp announced this Wednesday (21) the launch of new message formatting options.

Now, it is possible to edit simple and numbered lists, quotes and add graphic elements from programming codes. The resources are now available in Brazil and the rest of the world.

“In addition to helping save time, the functions also help users communicate more effectively,” says the company.

To create a list, the user must type a hyphen (-) followed by a space before the text.

Numbered lists start by typing a numeral (1, 2, etc.) followed by a period and space. Every time the user skips a line, the marker automatically increases.

Block quoting to highlight key text is triggered by the greater than sign (>) followed by a space.

Embedded code, often used by developers to share code snippets or commands, is added with an arrowhead (‘) before the text.

Previously available formatting options persist. These are: bold, italic, strikethrough and monospaced.

The commands work on Android, iOS (iPhone operating system), Web and Mac desktop. WhatsApp Channel administrators will also be able to use these options.
