Back in Brazil after 89 days traveling to the United States, former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) said, this Thursday morning (30), that there is no materiality to make him ineligible due to the processes he is the subject of in the Court Superior Electoral (TSE).

The statement was given shortly after a meeting held with members of the Liberal Party in Brasília, where they met shortly after arriving in the country. According to the former president, the strongest action against him is the meeting he held with ambassadors last year. The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) has been asking for the shelving of other processes in it that is cited, such as those related to the Covid-19 CPI.

“The issue of the TSE, the party’s lawyer is dealing with this matter. I don’t see materiality in anything. The strongest action was the meeting I held with ambassadors in the middle of last year. I don’t see why. The policy for dealing with ambassadors is my own, I see no reason to want to judge myself ineligible”, he said in an interview with Jovem Pan.

Still during the interview, the former president classified the camps in front of the barracks shortly after last year’s presidential election as a “spontaneous movement of the population”, but condemned the invasion and depredation of the headquarters of the Three Powers, in Brasília, in the January 8th.

According to Bolsonaro, the “CPMI will come clean and show who was wrong or not”, mentioning that the government had the necessary signatures for opening the commission days after the acts, but that a crusade was started to try to remove them from the application. .

“What does the government have to fear? Do you have the document or not? The document is from Abin [Agência Brasileira de Inteligência] Or is it the Federal Police? The PRF accompanied, in early January, the movements in Brazil or not”, he questioned.

According to him, something happened so that the security company that is on standby 24 hours a day at the Planalto Palace did not act at the time of the invasion. “The door of the Presidency through the ramp, how many times I wanted to go out there to greet the people, and it took five, ten minutes to find the key. The guys didn’t break the door, ”he said.

To the parliamentarians present at the PL headquarters, Bolsonaro also questioned the bill that the government wants to propose to Congress to regulate the performance of social media platforms, in the wake of the January 8 acts. Critical of the measure, the former president said that “you control social media by giving more freedom, freedom is priceless”.

“Now comes the government wanting to control fake news. What is fake news? Who are the people going to say whether this is a lie or not?

Opposition to the current government

A little earlier, Bolsonaro told supporters and allies that he will receive leaders, parliamentarians and other politicians in the PL with the aim, among others, of making the party and allies win more than half of the country’s mayoralties in the 2024 municipal elections.

He claims that his work in the party will be to give suggestions to the leaders “as an older, experienced person, who will work for the party, serve as a consultant for anyone who so desires” for work in the Legislative.

“We are not opposition, we are pro-Brazil. We want Brazil to really move forward. We do not want Brazil to sink so that we can appear as saviors of the homeland. There is a great deal of concern with the fate of our country, especially with regard to the economy,” she added.

Bolsonaro fired that the current government will not “do what it wants [com] the future of our nation. We are practically 20% of the benches, in addition to our colleagues and several other parties, we are the majority within Congress. We want the best for our country. I am sure that you will lead Brazil to a safe haven”, he said, adding that he is “excited with this new parliament that has emerged there, with these interests in developing our country, and not continuing to be just suppliers of raw materials to the world”. .

presidential succession

Jair Bolsonaro was also asked if he could run again for the Presidency of the Republic or who he would nominate for the presidential succession. He mentioned having “15 deputies” around him during the interview with Jovem Pan, and was applauded as the candidate for the race.

The former president even ruled out the possibility of former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro running for the Planalto Palace, saying that “someone launched her name”, but that she does not want to know about the position. “She is a person who does not have this political experience”.

“I had a hard time being president even after 28 years as a federal deputy. For the Executive, she doesn’t want to. I will not forbid it [de se candidatar]but she already advanced to me [que não quer]”, he stated.

The former president also ruled out the possibility of nominating his son, Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), to run for mayor of São Paulo in the next municipal election, stating that he still has no experience in a position in the Executive Branch. But, he signaled that he could support his former minister Ricardo Salles (PL-SP) in the race for the Matarazzo Building.

Earlier this week, ideologue Steve Bannon said he sees potential in son 03 as a future president of Brazil. “It will be the president,” he said in an interview in which he believes Bolsonaro himself will be “reelected president” in 2026.

Inquiry about the jewelry

Another topic addressed by Bolsonaro in the first few hours on Brazilian soil was the issue of jewelry that he would have received as a gift from the government of Saudi Arabia, in which he had his testimony scheduled for next Wednesday (5) to the Federal Police.

Bolsonaro reiterated that he has nothing to hide and that the report in the newspaper O Estado de São Paulo only discovered their existence because they were properly “registered and documented”.

“If they hadn’t been documented, they wouldn’t have found it. It’s very simple,” she snapped.

According to him, the set that would be delivered to Michelle, of the jewels valued at BRL 16 million, was “by official letter, not in the big hand”. The other set of men’s jewelry, he says, was handed over to Caixa Econômica Federal for safekeeping last week, in addition to a rifle and a pistol also given as a gift by the Saudi government, sent to the Federal Police.

The third set of gifts revealed this week is also ready to be delivered. “You have nothing to accuse me of,” he added.

The former president also justified the gifts given by the Arabs, stating that they are “very successful” beyond just oil, such as trade and technology, and that they “try to please people.” He also said that this is thanks to the good relationship he has with the Saudi government.

Bolsonaro says he lacked security when he arrived in Brazil

In a private meeting with supporters and allies, Bolsonaro criticized the lack of an armored car at the airport reception, which would have been removed by the government’s Civil House. He also said that, in the 2018 election, he had 40 Federal Police agents available, which did not happen now.

“We see this issue of the PCC planning [atos
criminosos], we get worried. I don’t have a chest of steel. I’ll try to get an armored car for myself. Now, it is not a rational attitude on the part of this government that is there. I never chased any ex-president with me. All that was asked, we granted. Now, with me, on the way back they announce that they no longer have an armored car. So giving a message, I can only understand that there ”, he said.

The Federal Police told the People’s Gazettewhich does not comment on “statements made by others”.

The Civil House informed the report that “no former president has the right to use an armored car”, as established by Law 7,474/1986 (see in full).

“Former presidents are entitled to two official vehicles and their respective drivers. No former president uses armored vehicles provided by the Presidency of the Republic. We reinforce that the two official vehicles were made available and are being used by former President Jair Bolsonaro”, he added.
