The dean of the Federal Supreme Court, Gilmar Mendes, said this Friday (3) that the case denounced by Senator Marcos do Val (Podemos-ES) shows that “we were being governor by people from the basement”, linked “to the militias of the Rio de Janeiro”.

Do Val, in a back and forth of versions, reports that he had a meeting with then-president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) at the end of last year in which a coup plot was discussed to reverse the result of the elections won by Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT ) in October.

The senator tried to change his version, exempting Bolsonaro from the initiative of the scheme, which would be the idea of ​​​​the then federal deputy Daniel Silveira (PTB-RJ). The plot would include encouraging coup concentrations in front of barracks and the illegal recording of some betrayal by the president of the Superior Electoral Court, Supreme Minister Alexandre de Moraes.

Gilmar spoke before the start of the Lide conference, a business group founded by former São Paulo governor João Doria, in Lisbon.
