This Saturday, the 20th, the Government of Amapá received the results of the tests carried out by the Evandro Chagas Institute (IEC) that identified the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) and Influenza A as circulating in the state, in addition to the new coronavirus, affecting mainly babies and children. . Governor Clécio Luís reinforced the need for immunization in combating the outbreak of respiratory syndromes.

“It is not a new virus, but it is circulating very strongly, accompanied by Influenza A, which has been leading to hospitalization and even deaths. We adopted several measures, acquired equipment, medicines, respirators, oxygen, set up a task force to increase the number of beds immediately, going from 85 beds to 249 in one week. In addition, we contacted the Ministry of Health, which responded immediately, sent teams and will also forward equipment. The situation is really very serious and affects children even more because of non-vaccination. Therefore, we need to increase the vaccination coverage of our children”, highlighted Clécio Luís.

A week ago, the State declared a public health emergency due to the outbreak, the Ministry of Health sent reinforcements to Amapá and a series of measures have already been adopted in terms of prevention and assistance.

Upon receiving the results, the SVS and the Health Department met with the governor and government technicians to assess the current epidemiological scenario. The group also received the press and broadcast live on the Government’s social networks to provide transparency to the data and actions taken.

On Sunday, the 21st, a Government meeting with mayors will align the measures to be adopted in the 16 municipalities to stop the increase and the worsening of cases.
“This is very sad for us, who are parents, health professionals, to see infected children. Parents should be aware of that runny nose, runny nose, but especially if you have shortness of breath. By avoiding agglomeration, we are also avoiding contaminating our children. It is therefore important to get the vaccine and, at the first symptoms, go to a basic health unit”, reinforced Secretary Silvana.

This Saturday, the HCA and the Children’s Emergency Room (PAI) registered 145 hospitalized patients, 34 in the intensive care unit (ICU) and 109 in clinical beds. At Maternidade Mãe Luzia, there were 16 hospitalized due to respiratory syndrome (1 in the ICU and 15 in clinical beds).

“The current epidemiological situation demonstrates the need to reinforce protective measures for children, avoid crowding environments, shopping, birthdays, anything that could lead to exposure to crowded places. In the first symptoms, the recommendation is to seek medical assistance because the aggravation can be very fast”, highlighted the holder of the SVS, Margarete Gomes.

Diagnosis
188 samples collected from suspected cases of respiratory syndromes were sent to the IEC in Belém. Of the total, 96 (51.06%) were positive for RSV.

The disease caused by RSV is known, being one of the main causes of respiratory infections in children, but the virus can also affect people of any age. This disease is usually characterized by mild symptoms, but it can also cause more severe conditions, especially in children under 2 years of age. Therefore, breastfeeding at this stage of life is an important immune booster.

The most common symptoms are low-grade fever, sore throat, headache and nasal discharge. There are other warning signs, such as high fever, persistent cough, difficulty breathing, wheezing, and purple lips and fingernails. In the appearance of symptoms, the recommendation is to look for a Basic Health Unit for the first assistance.

Health Reinforcement
Amapá declared a public health emergency on May 13, and has been working to open more beds, reinforcing professionals, medicines, equipment and mobilizing municipalities to increase vaccination coverage.

The fight against the outbreak relied on a State task force, which set up an energy substation to support the children’s health units, delivered two floors of the HCA with 94 new beds, acquired 15 mechanical respirators, 12 hospital monitors, oxygen cylinders , medicines, equipment, in addition to reinforcing work schedules and hiring a private hospital in Santana to guarantee more beds.

The Government also requested equipment, medicines and professionals from the Ministry of Health, which responded by sending 180 kits for the detection of the Covid-19 virus, Influenza A and B and VSR.

The MS also sent 32 technicians to the state to collaborate with diagnoses and combat the outbreak of flu-like illness (12 technicians arrived on the 15th, another 6 on the 17th and 14 professionals this Saturday).
