Voa Brasil should include Prouni students – 11/03/2023 – Market

The Ministry of Ports and Airports intends to present the remodeling of the Voa Brasil program to the Civil House by November 15th, which should be launched in stages.

The expectation is that the first phase of the initiative, which aims to offer tickets for R$200, will be launched this year and will focus on retirees and INSS (National Social Security Institute) pensioners. The novelty at this stage would also be Prouni students.

The program, run by the Ministry of Education, offers full and partial scholarships for undergraduate courses at private institutions. The objective is to facilitate travel for students who need to take exams in other states, for example.

The second phase of Voa Brasil would be the launch of the international version of the program, which is still being studied by the ministry.

The government is also considering including students from Prouni and public schools in this part of the initiative so that, if they obtain scholarships to study abroad, they can benefit from cheaper tickets.

In an interview with Sheet in October, Minister Silvio Costa Filho (Ports and Airports) confirmed that he is working on an “improvement” of the program.

“We are improving Voa Brasil so that, in fact, it can be a proposal that strengthens national aviation and so that the least favored have access,” he said.

“To give you an idea, we have 100 million passengers a year, but only 15% of the Brazilian population’s CPFs fly by plane. The focus of the program’s format is to look at the social aspect”, he continued.

As the minister said at the time, the idea is to use the idleness of flights in times of lower demand, such as the period from March to June and from August to November, to make tickets cheaper.

The way in which the program will be funded is still being developed by the government, which has been talking to airlines.

“This will be in common agreement with the airlines and we are designing the economic modeling. It’s not closed yet,” said Costa Filho.

The idea of ​​launching the program with cheap tickets came to light in March, announced by former minister Márcio França.

A SheetIn July, França stated that the government was negotiating with airports to create a cashback system for boarding fees with the aim of encouraging participants in the new program.

Furthermore, each passenger could purchase a maximum of four tickets for a value of up to R$200, something that would be verified through a CPF tracking system. The idea was to offer around 1.5 million tickets at this cost.

Until July, the three main Brazilian airlines — Latam, Gol and Azul — had agreed to participate in the ticket discount program, according to the former minister.

The scheme uses the name of the program that will sell airline tickets for up to R$200 and directs victims to fraudulent websites, whose links are published in videos and advertisements on social networks and sponsored on internet search engines.

After the scam was reported, Senacon (National Consumer Secretariat) of the Ministry of Justice requested that Facebook and Google remove scam content related to the Voa Brasil program from their platforms.
