Brazilian Viviane Lyra reached the index to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games, which will be held in Paris (France), after finishing the 20 km racewalk test of the World Athletics Championship, which is being held in Budapest (Hungary), with a time of 1h28min36s, which guaranteed him, last Sunday (20), the 8th position in the competition.

The vacancy in the next edition of the Games was guaranteed because the carioca finished the race below the index required to qualify for the Olympic Games, which is 1h29min20s. On top of that, Viviane Lyra surpassed her best time in the race so far, which was 1h30min57s, achieved in May in Rio Maior (Portugal).

“Look, just happiness. I came from an illness, I had hepatitis, I didn’t compete in the Brazil or South American Trophy. My preparation was dismantled, but I had support from the medical team, my coach reorganized the work and we continued to believe. Luís Paulo did everything to be here and that made all the difference, he supported me throughout the race. We are happy with the work. It’s thanking God for being healthy again and for being the eighth in the 20 kilometers”, declared the Brazilian to the CBAT (Brazilian Athletics Confederation) press office.

Now the Brazilian will focus on preparing for the 35 km race at the Athletics World Cup, which will take place from 2 am (Brasília time) next Thursday (24).
