The mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes (MDB), was received in the east zone of São Paulo this Thursday (14) with confusion between his supporters and representatives of Sindsep, a union of municipal employees.

Alongside First Lady Regina Carnovale Nunes, the mayor visited the dengue care tents at UPA Tito Lopes, in São Miguel Paulista, which was full of patients.

Unionists held up posters asking for salary adjustments and saying that Nunes had left São Paulo. Sindsep is linked to CUT, which supports the PT. Nunes is a candidate for re-election and his main opponent is deputy Guilherme Boulos (PSOL), who has the support of President Lula and the PT.

Nunes’ supporters drowned out the protest with shouts of support. Members of the GCM (Metropolitan Civil Guard) surrounded the unionists, who had their posters crushed by the mayor’s supporters.

One of them called the group “bread and mortadella” and said they didn’t look like workers or teachers. Among the supporters, Nunes did not interact with the protesters.

Municipal teachers are protesting for salary increases, and the category is on strike. Representative of the union present at the protest at UPA, professor Luana Bife, 39, says that confrontation is normal in times of elections and polarization.

“You can call us bread and mortadella, but our demand is concrete, it’s for working conditions,” he said. Asked about her candidate preference in the election, she avoided mentioning a name, but defended that it be from what she calls the progressive camp.

Boulos and Nunes technically lead in a tie in the Datafolha survey released this week on the 2024 electoral race for São Paulo City Hall.

With the national polarization consolidated in the municipal election, Boulos has 30% and Nunes has 29% — they are isolated from the second group of pre-candidates. The psolist has President Lula as his electoral leader, while the mayor has the support of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

Tabata Amaral (PSB) scores 8%, followed by Marina Helena (Novo) with 7%, Kim Kataguiri (União Brasil) with 4% and Altino (PSTU) with 2%.

Another 14% declare a blank or invalid vote, while 6% do not know who to vote for. The margin of error is plus or minus three points.
