Manaus (AM) – The vice-president of Manauara EC, Paulo Victor Silva de Souza, was convicted by the Court of Sports Justice of Amazonas (TJD/AM) for spitting and offending referee Halbert Luis Moraes Baia, in the match between Manauara and Princesa do Solimões, for debut round of the second round of the 2024 Amazonense Championship. The decision took place in a session held this Tuesday (12), at the Court’s headquarters.
According to the complaint, the episode that culminated in the conviction of Paulo Victor, son of the president of Manauara EC, took place during halftime of the match between Manauara and Princesa do Solimões, at the Carlos Zamith stadium, on March 3. The duel ended in a 0-0 draw and the Robô da Amazônia team complained about a penalty not being awarded in their favor. After the error, the Amazon Football Federation (FAF) suspended referee Halbert Baia.
Unanimously, the manager was sentenced to 390 days of suspension, for violating article 254-B, sole paragraph of the Brazilian Sports Justice Code (CBJD) – for spitting on the referee, and article 258, second paragraph, item II, of the CBJD – for disrespecting members of the arbitration team).
In the trial session, the case’s rapporteur, Dr. Geraldo Rocha, understood that the manager’s conduct could not be tolerated and that, in addition to being disrespectful and repugnant, it violates the principles of fair play and sporting ethics. Therefore, the rapporteur voted to uphold the complaint, to condemn the vice-president of Robô da Amazônia.
