This Wednesday (31), the president of the Liberal Party (PL), Valdemar Costa Neto, stated that the party will have its own candidate for the presidency of the Chamber of Deputies in 2025. According to Valdemar Costa, the decision responds to a request from the PL bench, which is the largest in the Chamber.

“We are going to launch a candidate in the Chamber, the bench wants it. Our leader appointed Prince Luiz Philippe of Orleans and Bragança to coordinate and see how we will choose a candidate. We’re going to have it anyway, and it’s not against Lira (current president of the Chamber) because he’s no longer a candidate. We will have 3 or 4 strong candidates”, said Valdemar Costa.

According to the PL president, the expectation is that the election will only be resolved in the second round. The statement was made during an interview given to GloboNews.

Regarding the election for the Senate, Valdemar said that the opposition leader, senator Rogério Marinho (PL-RN), is organizing the party’s priority proposals to be presented to potential candidates.

For the president of the PL, senator Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP) “has the best conditions” for the dispute for the presidency of Congress.

“We need to see if he (Alcolumbre) will accept the proposals that Rogério has. He has a great capacity for this and is proving to be a great leader there (in the Senate)”, stated Valdemar.

Last week, when talking about Federal Police (PF) operations against PL deputies, Valdemar Costa said that opposition parliamentarians have been “humiliated daily” due to the omission of the current president of Congress, senator Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD- MG).
