A wing of the União Brasil headed by the president of the acronym, Luciano Bivar, started a movement to try to block the approval of the PEC (proposed amendment to the Constitution) of the tax reform as a way to retaliate the Lula government (PT) for the difficulties in replacing Daniela Pinheiro by Celso Sabino, deputy of the party, in charge of the Ministry of Tourism.

This Thursday (6), Daniela met with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). She has already made the position available, but, according to Paulo Pimenta, Minister of Communications, she will stay at least until next week, when Congress concludes the economic votes.

In addition to the delay in replacement, União Brasil wants guarantees that it will have control over the appointment of positions in the portfolio.

The party released a note signed by 38 deputies in which it says that, “considering the importance for the country, as well as the complexity of the issue on the agenda (Tax Reform), the majority of the União Brasil bench understands that there are no conditions to vote the referred project before a deep analysis with the parliamentarians and the Brazilian society.”

The text also says that the bench defends that the vote takes place in the second semester, “providing the necessary time to better study and discuss this relevant and complex topic”.

Deputies from União Brasil say that there was an agreement for Sabino’s name to be made official at an event at the Palácio da Alvorada this Friday morning (7). However, the federal deputy was irritated by Pimenta’s demonstration and began to articulate with Bivar the list of supposed discontents of the party.

To get the support of some parliamentarians, members of the wing said that the movement against the reform was from the party, and not from a smaller group within União Brasil. Other deputies claimed that they had not been consulted and that their names were included in the note without their knowledge.

The situation irritated the mayor, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), who specifically expressed dissatisfaction with Sabino.
