The Minister of Tourism, Daniela Carneiro, should remain in office at least until next week. The information was confirmed by the Minister of the Communication Secretariat, Paulo Pimenta, this Thursday (6). Under pressure, Daniela and her husband, the mayor of Belford Roxo (RJ), Waguinho (Republicans), met with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and with the Minister of Institutional Relations, Alexandre Padilha, at the Palácio do Highland.
The expectation was that the minister would deliver the letter of resignation to Lula during the meeting. However, according to Pimenta, the government is focused on “congressional issues” this week. The Chamber of Deputies makes a concerted effort to vote on economic agendas, such as tax reform.
“We will conclude this debate on Congressional issues this week and we will resume this discussion on the composition [do governo] and possible changes that may occur in the government as of next week. Therefore, the minister remains at the disposal of the government performing her function,” Pimenta told journalists at the Planalto Palace.
