This Friday (22), the sector of Federal Educational Institutions (Ife) of the National Union of Teachers of Higher Education Institutions (Andes-SN) approved an indication of strike in federal universities, institutes and federal centers (Cefets) starting on April 15th.

A new round of assemblies should take place between March 26th and April 9th. The assemblies will discuss topics such as: the outbreak of the strike on April 15th; the creation of local mobilization committees; and the construction of local agendas.

Another meeting should take place on April 10th, with 72 hours to inform the government and rectors about the outbreak of strike on April 15th.

According to union members, the strike is a consequence of “the lack of progress in attempts to negotiate with the government on the category’s central agendas”.

According to a statement from Andes-SN, the category demands “salary recovery, career restructuring, ‘repeal’ of measures that attack teachers and public education such as the New Secondary Education, BNC Formação, ordinance 983/2020, among others”.

The union also holds the Lula government responsible for the “precarious working conditions” of teachers.

“All this broth, all this agenda that we are building, and which is part of the direct clashes that affect our local agendas, came to light in the assemblies and the base said: ‘it’s a strike! It’s a strike in the Education sector. It’s a strike to fight for our central agendas nationally, and also in our workplaces’. Therefore, it is essential that this month of April is a month of a lot of struggle, of a lot of mobilization”, said the 1st vice-president of the Regional Planalto do Andes-SN and the coordinator of the Ifes Sector, Helga Martins.
