The leader of União Brasil in the Chamber, deputy Elmar Nascimento (BA), stated that the party will discuss, this Wednesday (13), the possible removal of Luciano Bivar (PE) from the presidency of the party. The meeting of the national Executive was called amid an exchange of accusations between Bivar and the elected president of the party, Antônio Rueda.

In the early hours of this Monday (11), the beach houses of Rueda and her sister, Maria Emília Rueda, treasurer of the party, were set on fire in Pernambuco. The Rueda family does not rule out the possibility of an “attack motivated by political party issues” and named Bivar as a suspect in connection with the fires.

“For all the statements, for all the press conferences that were called, the words made by the president [Bivar] They don’t speak for our party, they don’t speak for our bench, they don’t represent us. It would be better if he voluntarily asked for his removal, so that we would not be forced to deliberate on this,” said Elmar after meeting with the party’s bench this afternoon.

Bivar denied any participation in the case and classified the suspicions as “inclusions”. He opposed Rueda’s election on the 29th. In the dispute, Rueda obtained the support of the majority of the party’s parliamentarians, leaders and the governor of Goiás, Ronaldo Caiado. União Brasil emerged from the merger between PSL and DEM.

The change in command is scheduled for June. Until then, Bivar would remain in command of the party, which is the third largest in the Chamber. However, if Bivar is removed, Rueda could assume the party presidency.
