UnB technical servants demonstrate against cutting benefits paid for 30 years
Known as the Standard Reference Unit (URP), the benefit represents an increase of 26% on the salary of 5,000 civil servants. Suspension decision was signed by Minister Gilmar Mendes, of the STF. UnB technical servants protest against benefit cut Technical servants of the University of Brasília (UnB) demonstrated this Thursday (25th) against the cut of the benefit known as the Standard Reference Unit (URP), which had been paid for more than 30 years to the category. The event took place at Asa Norte Campus (see video above). The decision signed by Minister Gilmar Mendes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), determines the annulment of an injunction that guaranteed the payment of the bonus. The cut does not affect teachers (learn more below). The benefit is a 26% increase on the salaries of more than 5,000 UnB employees. The bonus represents a quarter of the category’s salary and was a way of recovering salary losses over the years. The decision ensures that servers will not have to return the funds received so far. At the protest, the group wore black clothes and made a kind of funeral procession for the benefit. The category union said it will appeal. The decision of the STF minister applies to technical staff and does not apply to the benefit of teachers. The case of the teachers is being analyzed in another lawsuit, which will still be judged by Minister Cármen Lúcia. Read other news from the region at g1 DF.
