The head of the presidential office of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, confirmed this Wednesday morning (14) the invitation made to the Brazilian government to participate in the “Peace Summit”, which will be promoted by President Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss Russia’s war against the country .
In a message posted on a social networkYermak says he spoke with the advisor for international relations at the Planalto Palace, Celso Amorim, to participate in the event, which still does not have a confirmed date.
“I spoke about preparing for the Global Peace Summit, in which Ukraine seeks to engage the global community to implement President Zelensky’s peace formula. Brazil’s expertise in environmental protection is extremely valuable to us,” he said.
Yermak mentioned in the post that Russia’s destruction of the Kakhovska dam last week “proved the extreme relevance of the peace formula”.
The intention of inviting Brazil to participate in the event had already been mentioned at the weekend by Yermak, in which Ukraine intends to invite countries from the so-called “Global South” to participate in the meeting, such as India, China, Saudi Arabia and African nations. He also stated that “he wants to see Brazil as one of the leaders in the implementation of our Peace Plan”.
The invitation to Brazil comes three weeks after Celso Amorim tried to contain the crisis caused by Lula’s declarations of responsibility for the conflict. The president’s adviser said that “it will not be easy to reach a confluence. It will be necessary for both sides to come to the conclusion that the cost of war is greater than the cost of certain concessions.”
