Two forests and 17 parks are removed from privatization – 02/07/2024 – Environment

President Lula’s (PT) government removed 19 conservation units from the PND (National Privatization Program). The measure includes two national forests, Brasília, in the Federal District, and Ipanema, located in the Sorocaba region (SP).

Published in the Official Gazette of the Union this Wednesday (7), the current president’s act revokes four decrees signed between 2019 and 2022 by former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) that included these areas on the Executive’s list of privatizations.

Lula’s decree complies with a recommendation from the CPPI (Investment Partnership Program Council) from December last year to maintain conservation units only in the PPI (Investment Partnership Program of the Presidency of the Republic) “for concession purposes only the provision of public services to support visitation”.

Included in the PPI, according to the text signed by Lula, are the national parks of Chapada dos Guimarães (MT), Jericoacoara (CE), Brasília (DF), Serra dos Órgãos (RJ), Anavilhanas and Jaú, in Amazonas, do Caparaó, on the border of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo, Serra da Bodoquena (MS) and Iguaçu (PR), in addition to the two national forests (Brasília and Ipanema).

The concession of the provision of public services to the private sector must provide for the funding of actions to support the conservation, protection and management of conservation units.

In the case of the Iguaçu National Park, in addition to the concession to provide a public service to support visitation, a partnership is permitted for the operation of the Macuco Safari trail, whether in land or waterways, in addition to the operation of panoramic flights at the site. .
