Tributes and emotion mark the Semel Best of Sport 2023 Award ceremony – News of Brazil

The Municipal Department of Sports and Leisure (Semel) held this Wednesday (8), the Semel Best of Sports 2023 Award ceremony that honored the late Martial Arts fighter Felipe “Cabocão” Colares.

The event aimed to recognize and honor athletes, former athletes, athletes, coaches and federations that were highly represented in the capital.

“It was a moment of emotion and joy, one of the ways we found to value athletes for their level of involvement in sport and for their contribution to making Macapá a city that most encourages the practice of physical activities”highlighted Semel’s secretary, Bruno Igreja.

Athletes were honored in the collective, individual combat, individual general and parasports disciplines.

Little Donatella Martins, 8 years old, jiu-jitsu champion from Amapá, won 21 medals, 1 belt and trophy and was one of those honored in the sport’s revelation category. “I thank my parents for their encouragement. I really enjoyed the tribute”said the athlete.

Inclusive sport

Para-athlete Isaac Vilhena won state medals in the Paralympic bocce discipline, celebrating the inclusion of his category in the Macapa sport. “I am grateful for the opportunity to be here being honored. I am very happy that we are included and valued in Macapa sport. Being here sharing my achievements is priceless,” he said.

Posthumous tribute

One of the memorable moments of the event was remembering one of the people who was part of the history of Macapa sport, Felipe Cabocão Colares, the athlete was the second fighter from Amapá to win the Jungle Fight belt, the biggest Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) event. from Latin America, in addition to having six fights in the UFC between 2019 and 2022.

Felipe Cabocão’s widow, Jaqueline Amaral, spoke of the importance of the event and thanked everyone for the tribute.

“It is an immeasurable honor to be participating in this moment. He wore the Amapá shirt. I just have to thank the creators of the event for this beautiful memory”, concluded Jaqueline.
