Toucans linked to Eduardo Leite voted against the framework – 05/24/2023 – Panel

The majority of the PSDB bench in the Chamber of Deputies voted in favor of the fiscal framework, but the party had a significant dissent from opponents of the matter. There were 11 toucans for the measure and 3 against it.
Among the opponents are Lucas Redecker and Daniel Trzeciak, from Rio Grande do Sul, those closest to the governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite, who is also the party’s national president and a big bet for the 2026 presidential election.
“The PSDB is a fighter for the cause of fiscal responsibility. The text talks a lot about revenue, but not about cutting expenses”, says Trzeciak. He says he didn’t discuss the matter with Leite. “But certainly that position represents some of what he believes in,” he says.
The plenary of the Chamber of Deputies approved the basic text of the new fiscal framework on Tuesday night (23) by 372 votes to 108.
The expressive score shows a wide gap in relation to the minimum of 257 votes that the government needed to gather for the approval of a supplementary bill. Last week, the urgency vote had already gathered 367 votes.
