The ban extends to the naming of public places or any other symbol related to racism.
Manaus (AM) – State deputy Thiago Abrahim (União Brasil) presented this Thursday (15) bill No. 540/2023 that prohibits tributes to people convicted of racism in the Amazon.
According to the article, the prohibition applies “to people who have been convicted with final sentences for the commission of crimes against human rights and exploitation of slave labor, racism and racial slurs”.
“The bill in question aims to prohibit the granting of honors to people who have been convicted of crimes against human rights, exploitation of slave labor, racism and racial insult. Tributes to former convicts for these crimes would be like going against the grain of the fight against racial inequality, as they cannot be treated as an example or reference for society”
justified Abraham.
Also according to the proposal, the prohibition extends “to the naming of public places, buildings, highways, the construction and installation of busts, statues, monuments or any other symbol related to racism, in any establishment or public body”.
“The case of Vini Jr., a Real Madrid player, is not just a case. There are several cases. The player has been attacked numerous times, free of charge, just for being black. Every day thousands of people are disrespected by racism. This has to be fought. People who mistreat others because of their color should be punished and not honored.”
finished.
