The basic basket is a set made up of products used by an individual during a month. The products are sources of all foodstuffs that make up human nutritional needs. For 39 years, the Planning Secretariat, Seplan, has been carrying out a survey of Macapá’s basic food basket, using the Dieese methodology, which gives the opportunity to make comparisons with 17 other capitals.

“The basic basket consists of 12 products in the minimum quantity necessary for an individual to sustain themselves for 30 days; Amapá has had a tax exemption policy in force since the Waldez government, which Clécio maintained. This makes our basic food basket seventh in the national ranking”, reported Francisco de Assisfrom Seplan, in an interview with the program ‘LuizMeloInterview’ (Diário FM 90.9)this Tuesday, the 20th.

Francisco presented data from January showing the value of the basic food basket in Macapá – R$647.30; in December last year the price was R$634.56. “The highest priced basic food basket is in Florianópolis, R$800.31; the cheapest is R$528.48, in Aracaju”, informed the statistician, adding: “The difference between the highest and lowest price is almost three hundred reais”.

About rising values, Francisco highlighted rice, due to the harvest; tomatoes on a constant rise and bread, because of the wheat issue.

“We carry out this survey in at least 30 establishments that sell cereals and meat; Our basket is made up of rice, beans, flour, tomatoes, bananas, rump, milk, butter, bread, cooking oil, ground coffee and sugar. We carry out the survey in markets in Macapá”, explained.

The capital was divided into zones for the purpose of the survey. “There are significant price variations. This makes us say it again: don’t make your purchases at the first supermarket; do some research to find out where it is cheapest. This amount of 647.30 is not enough for a family, it is for one person. This value compromises 45% of the minimum wage”, concluded Francisco.
