Maria do Carmo demands speed in the release of the work long awaited by the population of Amazonas

Manaus (AM) — “Santa Casa will be transformed into the future Fametro University Hospital and will once again serve the community”, says Maria do Carmo Seffair, who is rector of Fametro and is also at the forefront of other successful initiatives, such as Faculdade Santa Tereza and the rescue of the old Tropical Hotel in Manaus.

Revealing some projections of what the Santa Casa de Misericórdia will look like after the restoration, which is monitored by the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute (Iphan) as it is a listed building, Maria do Carmo demands speed in the release of the work long awaited by the population of the Amazon.

“Santa Casa is a jewel of our culture and history. Since we announced that we acquired the building through auction, many people have told us about their personal relationships with the place. These are memories that are part of the lives of many Amazonians”,

says the businesswoman, reinforcing the need to overcome bureaucratic issues.

“We understand the importance of Iphan and treating the work as a restoration, but some issues end up delaying services. This bureaucratic part needs to be more efficient. The people of Manaus are in a hurry to guarantee quality healthcare”, points out Maria do Carmo.

The Fametro University Hospital will house more than 140 offices, offering SUS care, emergency units, diagnosis, therapy, in addition to becoming a platform for training and development of human resources and research.

To date, the estimate is that more than R$10 million will be invested in the restoration of the historic building, in addition to another R$20 to R$30 million for hospital equipment.

“It is an ambitious project, just like the new Tropical Hotel Amazônia, which aims not only to serve the population of Manaus, but also to provide a practical learning environment for medical students at our institution”,

concludes Seffair.

History

The Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Manaus was founded in 1872 and its current building opened in 1880.
