Manaus (AM) – The number of cases of deaths investigated due to suspected dengue fever increased in Amazonas, according to the Ministry of Health. In the last update carried out by the Arbovirus Monitoring Panel, last Friday (23), the number of cases of deaths investigated rose to 5. To date, in Amazonas, 5,238 probable cases of dengue are being investigated.

The deaths under investigation were registered in the municipalities of Manaus, with 3 possible cases investigated, Lábrea and Coari, with one case in each city.

In the same period, in 2023, the number of probable dengue cases in the State was only 2088. While in 2024, this number rose by approximately 280% and reached the range of 7,941 suspected cases.

The vaccination campaign against dengue, in the capital, began on Thursday (22), last week. The campaign aims to reach 90% of the 65,037 children aged 10 and 11 in Manaus, according to Manaus City Hall.

Other municipalities in Amazonas have started the vaccination campaign against dengue. Careiro da Várzea and Autazes were the pioneers in the State, in addition to the capital. The municipalities of Santa Isabel do Rio Negro, Nova Olinda do Norte and Presidente Figueiredo plan to start vaccination next Monday (26).

Access to the vaccine

The new dengue vaccine is available in 171 vaccination rooms in the municipal network. Of the total units, nine are open from Monday to Friday, from 8am to 8pm, and on Saturdays, from 8am to 12pm. Being them:

  • UBS Áugias Gadelha, at Rua A, 15, Conjunto Ribeiro Júnior, in the Cidade Nova neighborhood;
  • UBS Sálvio Belota, at Rua das Samambaias, 786, in Santa Etelvina;
  • USF Dr. José Rayol dos Santos, on Avenida Constantino Nery, s/n, Chapada;
  • UBS Amazonas Palhano, on Rua Antônio Mathias, s/n, São José;
  • UBS Alfredo Campos, at Alameda Cosme Ferreira, s/n, in the Zumbi neighborhood
  • UBS Leonor Brilhante, at Avenida Autaz Mirim, 8004, in Tancredo Neves;
  • UBS Leonor de Freitas, on Avenida Brasil, s/n, Compensa
  • UBS Deodato M. Leão, on Avenida Presidente Dutra, s/n, in the Glória neighborhood.

The Qdenga vaccine schedule consists of two doses, with an interval of three months between the first and second dose. Children who have had a confirmed diagnosis of dengue must wait six months to begin the vaccination schedule and anyone who becomes infected after the first dose must wait 30 days after the appearance of dengue symptoms to receive the second dose of the vaccine.

Those with congenital or acquired immunodeficiency, those with HIV, those using immunosuppressive medications, pregnant women and women who are breastfeeding cannot be vaccinated.
