The hospital in which Neymar will undergo ankle surgery is a world reference and has futuristic equipment

Paris Saint-Germain announced on Monday that Neymar will undergo surgery on his right ankle to repair ligaments after an injury suffered last month. Because of this, the striker will no longer play this season, as the deadline for return is up to four months. The procedure will be carried out at the Aspetar hospital, in Doha, a place that the Brazilian himself is already familiar with.

Aspetar is one of the most renowned sports medicine centers globally, having been recognized by FIFA and the International Olympic Committee. It was founded in 2007 by Jassem Bin Hamad Al Thani, son of the former emir of Qatar and brother of the current leader of the country. It was born in the context of the Asian Games to become what it has achieved in a few years: a complex of excellence.

As both institutions are financed with the country’s money, the hospital has a partnership with PSG. That’s why the club’s athletes not only undergo treatment for injuries, but also undergo pre-season exams there. Neymar himself has been there on other occasions. Like in March 2019, when he treated the fifth metatarsal of his right foot, a recurrence of the same injury that had almost ruled him out of the Russian Cup a year earlier.

In addition to PSG athletes, Aspetar also welcomes players from other clubs that look for it precisely because of its high standard of excellence, such as Norwegian Eerling Haaland, from Manchester City; as well as other sports. As the Qatari government finances the staging of several high-level events, the medical center’s facilities and services are available to all participating athletes. Other facilities that serve as Aspetar’s advertisement are its rehabilitation centers, one of which is exclusively for women (who can be treated with men if they wish).
