Without Neymar, PSG seeks a spot in the Champions League – 06/03/2023 – Sandro Macedo

Another season for Neymar at Paris Saint-Germain ends sadly. The injury suffered in the match against Lille, on February 19, was more serious than it appeared and his team announced that the number 10 will undergo surgery on his ankle – he will be operated on in Qatar, of course, which owns the team.

Thus, Neymar is out of PSG in the decisive game against Bayern Munich, this Wednesday (8), for the Champions League – screw the Frenchman, with all due respect.

And this is not the first time that the dear reader has come across the distressing phrase. Neymar has been out of decisive Champions League games for PSG almost as many times as Bill Murray killed himself in “Sorcery of Time”. It’s an endless ball “Groundhog Day” for Brazil’s most skilled player of this century.

I lost count of how many times Neymar was injured with some seriousness by the current club, but there were many. The Brazilian has been out of more than a hundred games for the team since arriving in Paris in 2017.

Interestingly, the news of Neymar’s season ending comes two days after Mbappé became PSG’s all-time top scorer with 201 goals. The record came in the 4-2 victory against Nantes, this Saturday (4).

With 200 goals, the Uruguayan Cavani is now in second place. Neymar is fourth on the list, with 118, behind Sweden’s Ibrahimovic, who scored 156.

Mbappé and Neymar arrived practically together in the team, but the Frenchman played 247 times, against 173 for Ney. The Brazilian was hired to be the great leader of the project that aimed to dominate Europe — screw the Frenchman, with all due respect. But PSG made just one final, and lost, just when the Brazilian managed to stay intact throughout the decisive phase. The tormentor that time was the same Bayern that could shorten the Paris team’s Champions, again.

Neymar not only saw Mbappé make history in the artillery, but he also lost leadership in the European project to him. Now the Brazilian is just the guy who completes the attacking trio – Mbappé’s main teammate is Messi, who has yet to win the Guanabara Cup, the Wimbledon Tournament and an NBA title (this one I want to see!).

And what would be better, or worse, for Neymar (thinking about managing his career in France)? If PSG gets the turnaround and the heroic spot against Bayern, in Munich (lost 1-0 in Paris), it could mean that the Brazilian really isn’t that important. And he will be released to leave.

If PSG is eliminated, fans and the press can — and will — list him among the culprits, for always being absent at the HEST. Meanwhile, Chelsea seem interested in bringing the Brazilian to the Premier League. Maybe it’s really good for the 31-year-old Brazilian to change gears and make his mark in the world’s top league… before Messi decides to win there too.

Additions, here and there
In Sergipe, in Batistão, Botafogo scored in the last game, to the dismay of the home team. Two days later, in London, Arsenal scored a last-ditch goal, much to the delight of the home side. There as here, the goal went beyond the additions.

There as here, the teams that defended themselves waxed (or waxed?) inside the additions and have nothing to complain about.

But there everything ended civilly, just with a party. Defeated Bournemouth, who could be relegated, accepted the result.

Here, the judge was pursued by the president and other members of the Sergipe delegation. The representative only calmed down when he took a flag (from the linesman) in the face. We seem to be missing something…
