Tebet defends maintaining the proportion of women amid pressure on Lula’s ministries – 07/12/2023 – Politics

The Minister of Planning, Simone Tebet, defended this Wednesday (12) that the government maintain proportionality of women, even if there is eventual reform in the first echelon of the government.

Tebet minimized any exchanges and avoided directly demanding that, if the changes materialize, they be replaced by women, but defended proportionality.

“We don’t need to nail the name of a woman to a certain position, the important thing is proportionality, which never falls, and representativeness. President Lula and the team, I think they are attuned to that too. If it is not specifically in these ministries, which can be in others or compensated with several other executive secretaries”, he told journalists.

The statement was given upon arrival at the ceremony at the Planalto Palace for the delivery of the National Order of Scientific Merit and the resumption of the National Science and Technology Council (CCT).

She is one of Lula’s 11 ministers, out of 37 folders. The center today pleads for more space in the first echelon to integrate the president’s support base in Congress. Among the desired positions is Health, led by Nísia Trindade, Tourism, by Daniela Carneiro, and Sport, by Ana Moser.

In addition to them, the presidency of Caixa, occupied by Rita Serrano, came into view.

In the case of Health, Lula recently made a gesture to the minister, saying that the ministry is his and that she will stay as long as he wants.

The topic has already been a point of divergence between Lula (PT) and Tebet in the past. Then a candidate for the presidency in the first round, the then senator proposed 50% of ministers in a possible government, while the petista avoided committing to numbers.

An ally in the second round, Tebet is now one of Lula’s 11 ministers. Despite the level being much lower than that of men, the other 26, it is a record.

Such as Sheet showed, after pressure from members of the centrão for more spaces in the government, President Lula (PT) gave an endorsement for allies to negotiate positions with the PP and Republicans in the first echelon and also bodies such as Caixa Econômica Federal and Funasa (National Health Foundation) .

The president’s idea, according to members of the Planalto Palace, is to articulate functions with parliamentarians in a block, that is, jointly, so that a nomination can contemplate a political group, and not just a party.

The assessment of members of the government and the centrão is that a broad negotiation of positions will have more effect on the formation of Lula’s parliamentary base than specific exchanges on the Esplanada.

The only certainty that exists for now among assistants close to the PT is that PP and Republican deputies have asked and the president is willing to offer them two ministries, but the positions that will be offered are not closed.
