Bolsonarist deputy associates women with procreation in CPI – 07/12/2023 – Power

Bolsonarist deputy General Girão (PL-RN) adopted a sexist speech during the session of the CPI of the MST this Wednesday (12) when he stated that he respects women because they are “responsible for procreation and family harmony”.

The parliamentarian’s statements took place in the midst of a conversation with deputy Sâmia Bonfim (PSOL-SP).

During a speech by Girão, the psolista stated that the minister of the STF (Federal Supreme Court) Alexandre de Moraes ordered the opening of an inquiry to investigate his alleged incitement to the coup acts of January 8.

“We really regret your attitude. Women have responsibilities, yes, and I respect them a lot, a lot, because they are responsible for procreation and the harmony of the family. And you don’t,” said Girão.

Then, women who were in the session criticized the statement, including congressmen Fernanda Melchionna (PSOL-RS), Camila Jara (PT-MS) and Sâmia herself.

Moments earlier, the parliamentarian stated that women from the MST (Movimento dos Trabalhadores Rurais Sem Terra) had allegedly tried to invade his office in Natal about two years ago and that they would not have been punished for being women.

“It is absurd that we have had a terrorist act against my office and not have a response simply because it was done by women. Does that mean that in the Brazilian Penal Code a woman can commit a crime and be exempt?”, he said.

Girão had already, minutes before, suggested using the legislative police to remove Sâmia from the commission’s plenary session after an argument between her and deputy Éder Mauro (PL-PA), who said that the psolist is part of the “manure of communism “.

For a few minutes, the microphones of the parliamentarians were cut off in front of the chatter. The CPI’s rapporteur, Ricardo Salles (PL-SP), even suggested to his colleagues that they represent Sâmia on the Council of Ethics of the Chamber.

The chairman of the committee, Lieutenant Colonel Zucco (Republicanos-RS), was also excited and discussed with the parliamentarian. “What is your objective, congresswoman? You want me to close the session, is that it?”, he said.

This Wednesday’s CPI session was the last of the collegiate before the parliamentary recess. In it, 21 requests were approved en bloc and in symbolic voting (when the votes are not counted), after being agreed between the CPI board and government deputies.

In the session of the previous day, the parliamentarians approved the summoning of the former chief minister of the GSI (Institutional Security Office) general Gonçalves Dias and preserved, again, the minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa, after action by the base of the Lula government ( PT).
