TCU determines that Bolsonaro deliver jewelry to Caixa and weapons to the PF – 03/22/2023 – Power

The TCU (Tribunal de Contas da União) decided, this Wednesday (22), that former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) must deliver the jewels he received as a gift from Saudi Arabia to the headquarters of Caixa Econômica Federal in Brasília.

As for the weapons he brought back in 2019 from a trip to the Middle East, they should be sent to the Federal Police headquarters also in the capital. This will have to be done, according to a unanimous decision among the ministers, within five days, after the former president is notified of the decision.

On the 15th, the court had determined that Bolsonaro should deliver the material to the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic.

A day later, however, the deputy attorney general of the Public Ministry at TCU Lucas Furtado asked the court to evaluate the possibility of the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic delegating the function to the specialized pawn department of Caixa Econômica Federal.

He justified that this body would have experience in evaluating, guarding and monitoring “high value jewels entrusted to it”. As for the weapons, Furtado asked that they be handed over to the Federal Police, or some other public department with experience in guarding and handling this type of weapon.

This Monday (20), the defense of the former president had asked the court to inform the exact place and deadline for the delivery of the items.

In addition, Bolsonaro’s lawyers asked, in a document sent to the court, that the parts could be returned to another Caixa Econômica Federal office other than Brasília. They also stressed that “the former president is in full condition to deliver the goods”.
