Advisor met with the governor of Acre to present a proposal for an environmental education plan for the Amazon

The advisor to the Court of Auditors of Amazonas (TCE-AM), Júlio Assis Corrêa Pinheiro, who is president of the Environment and Sustainability Committee of the Rui Barbosa Institute (IRB), met last Thursday (15), with the governor of Acre, Gladson Cameli, to present a proposal to prepare an environmental education plan for the Amazon, to be developed together with the other states.

Pinheiro is at the forefront of a movement to raise awareness among governors about environmental issues, such as the eradication of landfills. Furthermore, the Advisor wants to take advantage of the atmosphere of the 30th UN Conference on Climate Change (COP30), to be held in Belém (PA), in November 2025, to boost debates and boost the implementation of projects.

“The COP will be the opportunity, and the state of Pará will be the gateway to this opportunity for the Amazon states. We spoke with the governor of Acre about projects to be presented at the COP, which can show Brazil’s leadership in relation to good practices in preventing damage and protecting the environment”,

commented Júlio Pinheiro, citing the presence of the advisor and former president of TCE-Acre, Ronald Polanco, on the technical visit.

Also according to Júlio, the Audit Courts have acted differently since the 1988 Constitution, which gave constitutional status to environmental protection.

“The courts began to carry out, in addition to accounting, budgetary and financial supervision, also operational and patrimonial supervision. We had an increase in that old supervision of the application of public money. This meant that we could help with the governance of the states, being a more guiding court, which acts in prevention, helping public authorities to comply with the laws”,

said Júlio, emphasizing that the dialogue on environmental control has been extended to the country’s Courts of Auditors, whether TCEs or TCMs.

The Counselor’s agenda later includes meetings with other managers and governors.
