Post deceives by inducing connection between shoplifting and talk of Flávio Dino – 02/16/2024 – Politics

It is misleading that a case of theft of chocolates that occurred in a Lojas Americanas unit has a direct link with the speech of Flávio Dino, former Minister of Justice and Public Security who will take office as Minister of the STF (Supreme Federal Court) on February 22 . The record of the group committing the crime was reported on January 26, 2024 by the Band news program Bora Brasil. According to Lojas Americanas, the crime occurred in the municipality of Suzano, in the metropolitan region of São Paulo, on the same day the report was aired. Dino’s speech was made later, on January 31, 2024.

In his speech, verified by Comprova, the then minister argues that “punishment is not the same as prison”, and that crimes considered less serious, such as theft and traffic offenses, do not lead to the individual’s arrest, but rather to other forms of punishment . Furthermore, part of the former Minister of Justice’s speech was omitted and taken out of context to indicate that Dino encourages theft, such as that recorded in Americanas. “Rapists must be arrested. Murderers must be arrested. Perpetrators of heinous crimes must be arrested. But a person who eventually committed a traffic offense? A theft? Even situations involving crimes relating to property, in general. So , I imagine it’s around there”, said Dino.

In a note sent to Comprova, the retail company reported that it registered a police report on the same day as the criminal action. Americanas SA also adds that “the company has been investing in safety with monitoring technologies and is studying additional prevention measures at the unit.”

By producing a montage of two overlapping records, with the tags “You can steal at will” and “Eita”, the video suggests a situation of cause and consequence between Flávio Dino’s speech and the criminal action in the department store, as if the former minister was “liberating”, decriminalizing or encouraging the practice of theft.
