Tarcísio’s allies vote in favor of the pro Sabesp front – 04/13/2023 – Panel

Councilors from parties such as PSD, PL, MDB, União Brasil and PSDB, which make up the support base of Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), were in favor of a project that creates a parliamentary front against the privatization of Sabesp.

The company’s concession is one of Tarcísio’s main campaign proposals.

The proposal left the session at the São Paulo City Council this Wednesday (12) in turmoil and could spill over into the relationship between the president of the House and influential politician from União Brasil, councilor Milton Leite, and Tarcísio.

Leite supported Tarcísio in the second round of the 2022 election. However, with Tarcísio’s victory, União Brasil lost control of the State Secretariat for Logistics and Transport.

The bill, which creates the parliamentary front in defense of Sabesp, is authored by councilors from PSOL and PSB. The climate heated up during the session, when councilor Sansão Pereira, leader of the Republicans in the Chamber, asked for a roll call vote. Leite insisted that approval of the proposal had already been arranged in the college of leaders.

“I will vote by name [a partir de agora] all projects from the Republican bench”, said Leite.

Of the 31 votes, 21 were in favor of the parliamentary front, and ten against. As it did not have the minimum of 28 votes (favorable or contrary), the proposal will be discussed again in plenary. Isac Félix, president of the PL directory in São Paulo, when approving the PSOL, PT and PSB text, justified that he would do it because of the agreement, for example.

Displeased, Leite promised commitment to sanction the PSOL, PT and PSB proposal. “I will be working to build the necessary votes”, stated the president of the Chamber at the end of the session.
