The Tarcísio de Freitas government (Republicans) monitors the situation of Marcos Troyjo as president of the New Development Bank (NBD), also known as Banco do Brics, a group of countries that brings together Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
The Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, opened a dialogue with Troyjo for him to resign from the post, showed the Mônica Bergamo column. Lula intends to nominate Dilma Rousseff (PT) to replace the economist in the post.
Troyjo is close to former minister Paulo Guedes, who invited him to take over the special secretariat for Foreign Trade and International Affairs at the Ministry of Economy when Jair Bolsonaro (PL) became president.
In May 2020, he was appointed by Guedes to chair the Banco do Brics, when he was elected for a five-year term.
Tarcísio has already publicly declared his admiration for Guedes and appointed several of his allies to positions in the Government of São Paulo, such as Samuel Kinoshita, secretary of Finance, and Jorge de Lima, secretary of Economic Development. Recently, he said that the former minister will be chairman of a council linked to the economy in the state.
Troyjo has been among Tarcísio’s favorite names since he started putting together his government team, but his mandate as president of the NBD appeared as an obstacle. The governor’s allies are now monitoring his possible departure from the position to try to attract him to the São Paulo administration.
