Opposition deputies to the Lula government (PT) asked the Federal Court of Auditors (TCU) and the Comptroller General of the Union (CGU) to investigate the purchase of furniture without bidding by the Presidency of the Republic. The value of 11 pieces of furniture was BRL 379,428.00, according to the bidding waiver extract published in the Federal Official Gazette (DOU) on Friday (3).

The extract cites as a justification the “need to recompose the furniture”. On the 8th, the Palácio do Planalto was invaded and vandalized during acts of vandalism in Brasília. The document does not detail where the purchased furniture will be used.

“The destination of the furniture was not informed, which would be essential to verify the emergency nature that would characterize the bidding waiver. The waiver of this modality is commonly used in cases of emergency and public calamity”, said Deputy Deltan Dallagnol (Podemos-PR), one of the signatories of the request for investigation, in a note.

The deputies argue that the case does not fall within the waiver of bidding provided for by law. If the illegality is confirmed, it may “potentially represent the crime provided for in art.337 – E of the Penal Code, in the face of illegal direct hiring, as well as administrative impropriety, under the terms of art. 10 of Law nº 8.429/92, due to damage to the treasury”.

In addition to Deltan, deputies Adriana Ventura (Novo-SP), Alfredo Gaspar (União-AL), Gilson Marques (Novo-SC), Kim Kataguiri (União-SP), Luiz Philippe de Orleans e Bragança (PL- SP), Marcel Van Hattem (Novo-RS), Maurício Marcon (Podemos-RS) and Pedro Aihara (Patriota-MG).
