Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos-SP) invited the former president of the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo, Carlão Pignatari (PSDB), to join his party. The call is an attempt by the governor to reduce the political articulation problems he has had in the House.

Deputies from parties in the governor’s allied base, such as the PL and the Republicans themselves, have criticized the relationship with the state government and say that the administration will have to work hard to approve major projects planned for the second half of the year.

According to them, nominations for positions in the administration are blocked and the guidelines and priorities of the Tarcísio administration are not clearly presented to parliamentarians.

The main target of criticism is Jorge Wilson Sheriff of the Consumer (Republicans), whom Tarcísio chose as leader of the government and responsible for the articulation between the Executive and Legislative branches. With the change of party, the function could be passed to Pignatari.

The toucan was government leader from 2019 to 2021 and president of Alesp from 2021 to 2023. Member of the PSDB for three decades, he wants to leave the acronym, as he told the Panel in April. However, he depends on the party’s consent to disaffiliate without the risk of losing his mandate.

Initially, Tarcísio discussed with Pignatari a possible migration to the PP, which had recently been joined by Secretary of the Civil House Arthur Lima, the governor’s right-hand man. However, the fact that there is a federal deputy with a strong vote in the same region as Pignatari, Fausto Pinato, made the choice unfeasible.

As shown to Sheetthe appointment of the new member of the TCE-SP (Sao Paulo State Audit Court) is the most recent crisis of the Tarcísio government in Alesp, where the subject has been marked by rebellions and dissatisfaction at the base.

For deputies, the imposition of the name of federal deputy Marco Bertaiolli (PSD-SP) is yet another example of the government’s political disarticulation.

In June, União Brasil staged a rebellion when seven of its eight state deputies obstructed a vote on an Executive project that sought funds to make the construction of the intercity train feasible.
