Suspect of killing Palmeiras fan is arrested in Rio – 07/25/2023 – Daily life

Teams from the DHPP (State Department of Homicide and Personal Protection) of São Paulo arrested this Tuesday (25) in Rio de Janeiro, the Flamengo fan suspected of having killed Palmeiras fan Gabriela Anelli Marchiano, who was hit by a bottle on July 8, in São Paulo.

The man, identified as Jonathan Messias Santos da Silva, was arrested in the Campo Grande neighborhood.

The chief delegate of the DHPP, Ivalda Aleixo, said that the São Paulo Civil Police teams carried out the arrest and that he will be brought to São Paulo later this Tuesday.

According to the police, Gabriela Anelli Marchiano was hit in the neck during a fight between Palmeirenses and Flamengo supporters near Allianz Parque, in the west zone of the capital.

“He is not even a suspect, the perpetrator has been more than identified”, says the chief delegate of the DHPP.

“The team is at a Polinter police station in Rio de Janeiro to complete the formalities and we are going with him to São Paulo today”, added Ivalda. According to her, the fan appears in security camera footage throwing bottles in the direction where the dead fan was.

She did not give details of the capture and how they got to him. Police did not say whether the suspect has a defense or what he claimed.

The PM reported that the confusion started when two Flamengo fans walked towards the ticket office, which caused dissatisfaction among people from Palmeiras who were watching the game in commercial establishments outside the stadium.

Still according to the corporation, the Palmeiras started to chase rival fans to attack them.

According to delegate Cesar Saad, from Drade (Police Station for the Repression of Sports Intolerance Crimes), the fight that killed Gabriela took place around 6 pm, that is, three hours before the start of the match, on Rua Padre Antônio Tomás, at the entrance to the visiting sector.

Flamengo fans allegedly threw bottles at Palmeiras fans who were on the other side of the fence.
