Students from the state network represent Amapá in a Brazilian school Paralympic camp – News of Brazil

Two para-athlete students from the state education network will represent Amapá at the 2024 Paralympic School Camping, in São Paulo, which starts on Sunday (28) and runs until February 4. For a week, the pair will have contact, for the first time, with the routine of a high-performance athlete.
The Camping has been designed and carried out by the Brazilian Paralympic Committee since 2018 and aims to provide young athletes, selected from the School Paralympics, with their first contact with the routine of a high-performance athlete. The project takes place twice a year, generally in January and July.
Student Amanda Guedes, 18, represents Escola Estadual Profª Sebastiana Lenir, in the weightlifting category, while student Pedro Cardoso, 15, takes parabadminton, for Escola Estadual Profª Benigna Moreira de Sousa. The duo was called up after ensuring good participation in the School Paralympics held in 2023.
Pedro Cardoso believes that the experience can yield new knowledge about the sport that stood out the most, which is parabadminton. “I’m very excited because it’s the first time I’m participating in an event like this. I think I will learn new and important things within my sport”, said the student.
For young Amanda Guedes, the opportunity to participate in Camping is unique and reinforces her acceptance as a person with a disability, as she found sport a way to develop.
“It’s sensational to have been called up because it was with Paralympic sport that I accepted myself, that I understood that I could go far and contradict the people who put me down. Seeing everything I’ve been achieving through sport makes me extremely happy.”said the student, excitedly.
During participation in the project, in addition to experiences in each modality, young athletes undergo physical assessments, receive multidisciplinary monitoring, and attend lectures related to the high-performance routine.
The athletes who participate in the Camping, in addition to completing all the activities proposed by the coaches of the Brazilian Paralympic Committee and the Confederations, have the responsibility of competing in regional and/or national competitions in their sports throughout the year.
Flights, accommodation and food for para-athletes participating in the Camping are fully paid for by the Brazilian Paralympic Committee.
