Students from the East Zone of Manaus participate in ‘Laboratory of Dreams’

The project is from Unicef and aims to encourage debates and promote social transformation
Manaus (AM) – The new stage of the ‘Dream Laboratory’ project, promoted by the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef), brings together more than 200 students from Escola Estadual (EE) Gilberto Mestrinho, East Zone of Manaus. The event takes place this weekend (2 and 3), with the aim of providing and encouraging solutions to social problems experienced by participants in the community where they live.
For the action in Manaus, young people from the Colônia Antônio Aleixo neighborhood, in the East Zone of the city, were chosen for the activities. Within the teaching unit, they have been developing, since last year, the Adolescent Citizenship Center (Nuca), which has the Unicef seal. Together, the students debated problems and suggested solutions.
Among the themes observed at Nuca, students talked about the environment, leisure spaces for youth, access to the job market and stigmatization of the area where they live. The project, according to student Daniely da Silva, 17, was very well received by the students.
“We hear a lot that young people don’t have a vision of the future, but I see that we are the future and we had things to talk about. We were heard and today I am very happy to be here, to have this opportunity. I’m sure I won’t leave as the same person I arrived at”, shared the student.
Schedule
After the innovation journey, which ends this Sunday (3), young people will participate, over the next few weeks, in eight meetings with workshops and lectures that will support the step-by-step process of the projects to be developed by the participants. The topics that will be debated are: 1) Leadership and Purpose; 2) Human Rights; 3) Creativity; 4) Community Journalism; 5) Environment; 6) Urban Art; 7) Social Networks and 8) Project Development.
“The project encourages state school students to change their community using these exposed tools. With this knowledge, they are able to define possible strategies”, highlighted the deputy executive secretary of Capital, from the Department of Education, Edilene Pinheiro, who was present at the event.
Mentoring will take place weekly, in groups, which have already been divided this Saturday. This stage will prepare participants for the final phase of the program, entitled “Demoday”. At this point, the solution projects developed by young people will be presented to a panel of evaluators, made up of members of the public sector, social leaders and investors.
In the end, the objective is to provide the possibility of raising financial support so that the initiatives of young people, protagonists of the process, get off the ground and change their community. Demoday will take place in May this year.
“This entire trajectory was created with a clear intention, that of protection and prevention against violence that occurs against children and adolescents, and the possibility of this becoming proposals for action by those involved”, concluded the head of the Unicef office in Manaus, Deborah Nandja.
