STF grants provisional release to 149 more women for acts of January 8

Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), this week granted provisional freedom to another 149 women denounced by the Attorney General’s Office detained for alleged involvement in the acts of January 8, which culminated in the invasion and depredation of the headquarters of the Three Powers in Brasilia.

According to a note released this Wednesday (8), the analysis of the cases is part of an action that “prioritises the analysis of the situation of women” in reference to the week in which International Women’s Day is celebrated (see in full).

According to the STF, Moraes claims that the vast majority of these women do not represent a procedural risk or to society at this time, which allowed them to respond freely. “They are not the main perpetrators or financiers of the depredation and present personal situations compatible with provisional release”, she says in a note.

Among them are four women who had different situations, such as comorbidities, oncological condition and responsibility for children with special needs.

The STF reports that it has already granted 407 provisional freedoms with precautionary measures to women, with 82 remaining in prison during the process. The defendants have already been notified to present a prior defense of the accusations within 15 days after the subpoena.

Among the precautionary measures provided for by law, are the use of electronic anklets for remote monitoring, handing over passports, the obligation to go home at night, banning the use of social networks and communication with others involved, among others. others.

On the other hand, the minister denied 61 requests for provisional release “by women denounced for more serious crimes, since the maintenance of preventive detention proves to be necessary to guarantee public order and criminal procedural instruction”.
