MST wants Lula’s presence at fair in São Paulo – 08/03/2023 – Panel

The MST wants the presence of president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) at the National Agrarian Reform Fair, which the movement will hold at Água Branca Park, in São Paulo, in May.
As the Panel showed, the event returns to the location in the western part of the capital after four years, thanks to an authorization granted by Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), since the state is responsible for the space.
In 2017, former Uruguayan President Pepe Mujica participated in the event. The MST is also looking for important international personalities for this edition.
The return of the fair to the park has already been seen as an achievement by the movement. Gilberto Kassab, Secretary of Government, is dealing with the issue through the state administration, and he maintains a good dialogue with the MST.
The concession of the park to the private sector, completed in 2022, was also seen as a risk to the possibility of returning the fair to the site.
The last time the event took place at the venue was in 2018. The following year, the event was vetoed by then-Governor João Doria, who had been elected with a strong speech against leftist parties and movements.
The movement intends to expose the production of its settlements, in addition to promoting cultural events. Around 260,000 people visited the last edition of the fair, according to the movement.
