Skin won another honor on Thursday (5). The city of Santo André inaugurated a statue of the King in Parque Antônio Fláquer, called Ipiranguinha, in Vila Alzira.
The place is close to where the idol scored the first professional goal of his career, when he was just 16 years old, on September 7, 1956. The game was a friendly between Santos and Corinthians de Santo André.
Pelé, at the time still called Gasolina, had been at Peixe for less than a month and scored, in the 36th minute of the second half, the sixth goal in the 7-1 victory after leaving the bench.
Corinthians de Santo André’s stadium, Américo Guazelli, no longer exists, and the club played in twelve editions of the Campeonato Paulista (among all divisions). It currently only competes in amateur championships and is located on Rua 7 de Setembro, named after the date of the King’s first goal.
The inauguration was attended by dozens of fans and Santo Pepe and Manoel Maria idols, as well as club representatives. Also participated Leonardo Dominiqueli Pereira, president of the OAB of Santo André, Paulo Serra, City mayor, Fabio Picarelli, Secretary of the Environment, among other authorities.
