The CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) for sports betting approved, this Tuesday (6), the summoning of leaders of the group suspected of manipulating results in Brazilian football, players allegedly involved in the scheme and representatives of sports betting houses.

In total, the deputies decided to call almost 20 athletes. The list includes Bauermann (Santos), Lomónaco (Bragantino), Romário (ex-Vila Nova, banned from football), Alef Manga (Coritiba), Nino Paraíba (ex-Bahia) and Paulo Miranda (ex-Grêmio).

Among the players summoned by the CPI are those already punished by the STJD (Supreme Court of Sports Justice), the defendants in the investigations of the MP-GO (Prosecutor’s Office of Goiás) and also names only mentioned in the group’s conversations.

The deputies will also hear Bruno Lopes de Moura and Thiago Chambó, appointed as leaders of the match-fixing scheme, and Camila Silva da Motta, who is the former’s partner and, according to the MP-GO investigation, is also part of the organization.

Representatives of referees, the FGF (Goiana Football Federation), three bookmakers operating in Brazil (Betano, Esportes da Sorte and Vai de Bet), in addition to industry associations, were also summoned.

Also approved was the summoning of journalist André Rizek, currently at Grupo Globo, to speak about Mafia do Apito —an organization denounced by him that manipulated football matches in 2005.

In the form of guests, the director of the Federal Police, Andrei Rodrigues, and the secretary of Finance, José Francisco Mansur, who takes care of the regulation of betting at the ministry, were also invited to speak at the commission.

The sessions to hear the names approved this Tuesday will still be scheduled.
