The base document of the São Paulo Forum for the meeting to take place in Brasília at the end of the month praises the dictatorial regimes of Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua and pays an ode to China, characterized as a “stability and balance factor” for America Latin.

As usual, the organization, made up of left-wing Latin American parties, is critical in the text of the US, which it refers to as the “empire” (read the full text at this link).

There are also several references to the far-right threat on the continent, despite an assessment that it has been partially contained recently.

“To the firmness and advances of Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua, are added electoral victories that, based on the premise of programmatic unity, stopped the development of neo-fascism in the region”, says the document, released this Thursday (15).

The meeting, scheduled for June 29 to July 2, will take place in the Brazilian capital as a way of honoring the election of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who is expected at the event. The PT has the executive secretariat of the Forum and is one of its most influential members.

The text condemns the “coercive measures and unilateral sanctions against Venezuela and Nicaragua”, applied by the US and European countries as a way of pressing for change in the regimes of Nicolás Maduro and Daniel Ortega, respectively.

There is no reference to human rights violations and repression of opponents in countries. Both the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) and the Nicaraguan Sandinista Front are members of the Forum.

But the heaviest praise in the document is reserved for China, seen as a counterpoint to American “imperialism”.

“China represents a factor of stability and balance for the Latin American and Caribbean region, manifested in the defense of the principles of international law, in particular non-interference in the internal affairs of Latin American countries, to which, in addition, it has provided cooperation without political conditioning”, says the text.

According to the São Paulo Forum, “Chinese diplomacy advances in the world and increases its influence for peace”. There is also no mention of the communist regime’s authoritarianism, repression of the Uyghur minority or threat to retake Taiwan by force.

Regarding the war in Ukraine, the left parties repeat the position that NATO’s supposed attempt to expand close to Russian borders was what generated the conflict.
