Mayor of Santana appoints new members to the Municipal Council of Culture – News of Brazil

This Thursday, the 15th, the mayor of Santana, Sebastião Rocha, swore in 16 full and alternate members of the Municipal Council of Culture. Civil Society representatives were selected through a democratic and transparent vote held in person on the 27th and 28th of May. The inauguration ceremony took place in the auditorium of the Grupo Perspectivas Construtivas (GPC), located in the center of the city.
Mayor Sebastião Rocha highlighted the importance of a diverse Council, with members who share the desire to boost the development of culture in the municipality.
“It is very important that the Council of Culture of Santana is representative, and this is happening, with the participation of youth, women and men committed to the advancement of culture in Santana. I want to congratulate and welcome the new directors, with the conviction that they will contribute significantly to the structuring, planning and success of culture in Santana”said the municipal manager.
The Council is a deliberative entity of a social nature, with the attribution of proposing and approving the definitions discussed in the meetings with the other members, following the guidelines established in the Culture Plan, in addition to monitoring and supervising the resources coming from the Culture Fund.
Musician Ronni Santos Ferreira highlighted that his inauguration is also a personal achievement, as it is the first time he participates in an electoral process.
“This is a historic moment in my life, as it is the first time I participate in an electoral process. I am here to represent music and other segments, to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to participate in cultural activities, and to enforce Article 5, which guarantees equality before the law.”stated ronnie.
Brief history
The Culture Council of Santana was created by Municipal Law in 2011, but was effective in May 2021 during the management of Mayor Sebastião Rocha, who officially swore in the first Council of Cultural Policies, composed of 12 members, 6 of which were appointed by the Public Power and 6 elected by civil society.
Initially, the Council had the arduous task of establishing various guidelines related to the area, such as bylaws and other administrative matters.
The elaboration of a Municipal Plan of Culture and the regulation of the Municipal System of Santana are two other important conquests sought by the first Council established. This demonstrates meticulous and consistent work aimed at boosting, recognizing and valuing the artistic class and cultural collaborators.
“Every Council has the duty to guide, guide, supervise and provide guidelines, and there is no way to do this without being technical. Therefore, I would like to congratulate this Council, made up of wonderful technicians and artists from the city of Santana”said the director-president of Sancult, Elaine Araujo.
