Dance, music and poetry took over the Miracema Housing Complex on Saturday (15) with another edition of the ‘Hip Hop Dance Periferia’ project, promoted by the Hip Hop State Front, with support from the Government of Amapá. The competition seeks to spread the cultural expression in peripheral and residential areas of Macapá.

The great novelty of the event was the use of the evaluation criteria that will be present in the 2024 Olympics, in Paris. The technique used, degree of difficulty, musicality and choreography of pairs were analyzed. The winners were the b-boy duo Françoa and King, in the male category, and b-girl Emily, in the female category.

“As it is new for the category, we are introducing this new form of evaluation within our events, a way to prepare the athlete, so we use these criteria and the popular ones, to guarantee this inclusive transition in the modality”, explains the competition coordinator , Siddhartha Amorim.

The competition presented to the Miracema community the elements that make up the movement: breaking DJ, MC, graffiti and knowledge. Among the competitors, Suzane da Silva, 24, known as b-girl Ellasttyck, says that it was through projects like this that she got into breaking and today she has the opportunity to represent the state in national competitions.

“It was with a project like that that I got to know hip-hop culture and I got here, I just watched it and today I’m a woman who took her place and I’m going to represent Amapá abroad”, she explains. She will participate in the national competition “When the Streets Call”, which will define the best Brazilian bboy and bgirl to represent the country. The event takes place in August, in Mato Grosso do Sul, with the selective and finals in Brasília, in the Federal District.

The b-boy Snoopy, Wallyson Amorim, says that occupying spaces where many projects do not reach is a way of rescuing youth through art. “Hip hop is from the periphery and is for the periphery, which today manages to reach other spaces and establishes itself as an Olympic sport to add much more, we are here today because Miracema is a new neighborhood, with many young people with potential, so we are going to present this culture of peace and poetry for them”, he reports.

The event quickly attracted the attention of housing residents, such as Maria da Conceição, 50 years old. For her, it was a way to liven up Saturday and provide entertainment for her grandchildren. “I still didn’t know the style, but I really liked it, my grandchildren are having fun and so am I, it’s a way to have fun at the end of the afternoon”, she says.

hip hop culture

This year, the 50th anniversary of hip hop in the world is celebrated, with an official date of August 11th. The movement emerged in the 1970s, in the Bronx neighborhood of New York, in the United States.

To strengthen sports and cultural groups, the Government of Amapá supports activities carried out by the Hip-Hop State Front, which involve young people with workshops, events and training within the most vulnerable communities.
