With the departure of Milton Vieira (Republicans) from the Chamber of Deputies to take over the vacancy of Secretary of Housing under the Ricardo Nunes (MDB) administration, his party colleague Ely Santos will take over the vacancy of federal deputy.

She is the sister of the mayor of Embu das Artes (metropolitan region of São Paulo), Ney Santos. First alternate, Ely was accused of being part of a criminal organization linked to the PCC (First Command of the Capital) faction and of money laundering in the São Paulo Courts, as was her brother. She was even arrested for two months between 2016 and 2017.

UOL’s report showed that the inquiry involving the two lasted 11 years, but was locked this month after Justice determined.

Marcos Pereira, president of the Republicans, says that Ely will be very welcome to the mandate.

“She was already a deputy in the last legislature. Sheet they said that [acusação de elo com o PCC] when she took over as an alternate, at the time of the election. You need to know that an accused person is not convicted, there is still the principle of presumption of innocence in the country. Accusation is not condemnation”, says the leader of the acronym.

Vieira takes over the Housing portfolio on the nomination of the Republicans and after the noisy departure of his predecessor and party colleague João Farias.

As the Panel revealed, Farias came into conflict with the CEO of Cohab, João Cury, and the Secretary of Government, Edson Aparecido, regarding a yet-to-be-published decree for the expropriation of an area and the construction of a housing project in Cidade Tiradentes, east zone of São Paulo.

The decree would specifically serve the purpose of making viable a housing project submitted by partner companies Usu Campeão and Sousa Araújo to the Pode Dentro program. The city would pay approximately R$ 1.1 billion to companies for the project. Farias argued that the decree was illegal and would benefit both companies to the detriment of competitors.
