The new CBF protocol that allows an extra substitution in cases of concussion, which is a brain injury caused by a blow to the head, is now in effect. The new protocol will be used in series A and B and can be activated from this Saturday’s games (13).
In these cases, the player change will not be counted. In each match, only one change per team will be allowed. According to the Confederation, the choice of series A and B was due to the presence of VAR in all matches.
Before the match, the referee team will give the doctor a red card used for concussion substitution. It will be shown to the referee at the time of the athlete’s change. After the end of the game, the doctor will return the card and fill out a questionnaire detailing the symptoms identified and the treatment given to the athlete. “It’s a victory for us. We have been fighting for this since 2015”said the Dr. Jorge Pagura, president of the CBF Medical and Anti-Doping Commission.
