Ambassador, former minister and lawyer Sergio Silva do Amaral died on Thursday night (13) in São Paulo, aged 79. He was hospitalized at Vila Nova Star Hospital, where he was treating cancer.

Amaral’s death was communicated by the family in a note published on social media. The body will be veiled this Saturday (15), from 9 am, at Cemitério São Paulo.

Sergio Silva do Amaral was a minister and spokesman in the government of Fernando Henrique Cardoso (PSDB) and held diplomatic posts in several countries, such as the United States, the United Kingdom and Paris.

In addition to being part of the government, the diplomat also worked in the private sector, such as the Brazil-China Business Council and was a member of the Board of WWF Brazil, among other companies, and was associated with the Felsberg e Advogados law firm and a member of the FIESP Strategic Council.

Born in São Paulo, Amaral graduated from the Law course at the Faculty of Law of USP (FD-USP), completed a postgraduate course at the University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne in the area of ​​Political Sciences, among other training.

Sergio Amaral leaves four children and two grandchildren.
