Lira files a criminal complaint against Renan at the STF – 07/14/2023 – Panel

The President of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), entered the STF (Federal Supreme Court) with yet another criminal complaint against Senator Renan Calheiros (MDB-AL). The petition was filed on Monday (10) and distributed to Minister André Mendonça.

In it, Lira alleges that she was the victim of a crime against honor and that Renan spread slanderous, insulting and defamatory information during a public event.

“While Arthur Lira had the secret budget, he directly benefited from the secret budget. And he used, and used many city halls, unfortunately, to launder money and this all needs to be investigated, exemplary punished”, says an excerpt from Renan’s speech, on 28 May.

At the STF, Lira says that Renan makes accusations “empty, frivolous and without any probative ballast” and that parliamentary immunity “does not legitimize him to offend the honor of others, even more so when he is not in the Federal Senate dependencies”.

In the piece, the deputy’s defense also states that Renan’s “total lack of care and responsibility” causes “losses, embarrassment, shame and pain”, tarnishing Lira’s “unblemished and honest conduct”.

About a month ago, Lira had already filed a petition against Renan at the STF, contesting the senator’s statements on social networks. The emedebist claimed that Lira assaulted his ex-wife, is a deadbeat and embezzles public money.

“A sad example: Lira is a deadbeat, he usually doesn’t pay what he owes. Worse, he embezzles public money and beats a woman – he beat Jullyene, his ex-wife and mother of his children, for 2 hours. I confess that I approved the Maria da Lei Penha thinking about punishing miscreants like him,” he wrote on Twitter.
