Senator will present point of order against simultaneous hearing

Senator Alessandro Vieira (MDB-SE) informed that he will present a point of order to the Constitution and Justice Committee (CCJ) of the Senate against the simultaneous hearing of Paulo Gonet and Flávio Dino, appointed by President Lula (PT) to the Attorney General’s Office of Republic (PGR) and the Federal Supreme Court (STF), respectively. The hearing is scheduled to take place on Wednesday (13).

According to the senator, the decision by the president of the Constitution and Justice Commission, Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP), to question the two nominees at the same time is “unequivocally unprecedented and unconstitutional, while it violates the constitutional principles of efficiency, proportionality and reasonableness”.

The idea of ​​the CCJ presidency is to cool down the hearing, interspersing questions for Gonet amidst the tougher questions for Dino, to prevent him from being embarrassed.

“What is intended, in terms of public interest and fidelity to the constitutional text, by dispensing with the usual division of these public arguments?”, asks Vieira in a note sent to People’s Gazettethis Tuesday (12).

For Vieira, the simultaneous hearing will leave parliamentarians with little time to ask questions and will not allow the necessary time for those taking part in the hearing to develop their answers.

“In addition to being inefficient, it also solemnly ignores, at the same time, the wishes of constituents and citizens,” said Vieira.

If the CCJ president’s decision is not reversed, the opposition has already indicated that it will concentrate its efforts on questioning Flávio Dino.

Senators who oppose the appointment of the Minister of Justice must approach him again with uncomfortable facts: the suspicion that he was omitted in the acts of January 8th; the recent discovery that the wife of a drug trafficking leader in Amazonas visited the department he commands; Dino’s defense of strict social media surveillance; the persecution of the right, among other topics.
