Lula (PT) nominated Flávio Dino (PSB) for the vacancy of retired minister Rosa Weber in the STF (Supreme Federal Court). He will be questioned this Wednesday (13) alongside the president’s choice for the PGR (Attorney General’s Office), Deputy Attorney General Paulo Gonet.
If approved, Dino will be able to stay on the court until 2043, as he is 55 years old and, according to the court rules defined by the Constitution, the position of Supreme Court minister is for life and can be held until the compulsory retirement of public servants, at 75. years.
Currently in the STF there is a minister appointed in the government of Fernando Henrique Cardoso (PSDB) — this is the case of Gilmar Mendes.
Two were appointed during Lula’s first two terms, Cármen Lúcia and Dias Toffoli; three were nominated by Dilma Rousseff (PT): Luiz Fux, Luís Roberto Barroso and Edson Fachin; one by Michel Temer (MDB), Alexandre de Moraes; and two by Jair Bolsonaro (PL), André Mendonça and Kassio Nunes Marques.
In this third term, Lula has already appointed Cristiano Zanin to the Supreme Court, replacing Ricardo Lewandowski.
